Dr Mark Grixti

Dr Mark Grixti is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and an integrative therapist. Mark is an associate of intheconsultingroom.com. He is also skilled in cognitive and neuropsychological assessments and is a practitioner of EMDR (a treatment approach for post traumatic stress disorder).

Mark completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Surrey University, and is a member of The British Psychological Society. He has been working as a psychologist in the National Health Service since 1997. Mark has extensive and specialist experience in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and in Child Protection Proceedings. He also has wide-ranging experience in working with adults: both individually and with couples, with people with learning disabilities and older adults. He is a registered healthcare provider for private health companies and also works with people who are self funding.

Mark considers it both a privilege and an honour to have been invited into the private lives of many different people from many cultures. His rich diversity of experiences is reflected in his client-centred approach. Therapy can be a difficult process and it is the therapist’s responsibility to work towards a collaborative and trusting relationship with clients. This is best achieved through a genuine, non-judgemental appreciation of whichever experiences the client brings to therapy, however complex, painful or challenging. Mark uses a flexible and integrative approach that incorporates cognitive behavioural, psychodynamic and systems therapies to work towards the specific needs of each individual.

Mark and Tanya also work together as co-therapists when undertaking couple counselling/therapy, when the presence of two therapists can provide a more neutral and balanced forum to explore relationship issues.

In addition to his clinical work Mark also provides clinical supervision to Clinical Psychology Doctoral Trainees, and provides consultation to Health, Education and Social Care Institutions. Mark is also contributing to a number of psychology research projects and publications.
